Thank you for joining us at the 2019 National Math Festival on Saturday, May 4th! We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who attended the National Math Festival events in Washington, DC and all the satellite events at science museums in 40 states around the U.S. We loved meeting you, learning about your math journeys and discoveries, playing games together, and celebrating the limitless power and joy of math as a community.

The National Math Festival brings together some of the most fascinating mathematicians of our time to inspire and challenge participants of all ages to see math in new and exciting ways. The 2019 Festival featured lectures, hands-on demos, art, films, performances, puzzles, games, children’s book readings, and more for all ages.

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Film Room
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Film Room was home to many short, creative math films throughout the Festival, as well as opportunities for Q&A with your favorite filmmakers and presenters. Most films were geared toward teens, middle schoolers, and adults.
Come to the movies! Your hosts will be mathematicians from around the country. These short film clip presentations will range from the physics of football, to the math behind movie animation, to a chance to meet winning filmmakers from the National Science Foundation-sponsored “We Are Mathematics” contest. Check out individual listings for more details. Age ranges vary by listing. Bring your questions and your curiosity!

The National Math Festival takes place in Washington, D.C., but for those located outside the U.S. capital region, science museums around the United States hosted satellite events featuring Geometric Bubble Blowing workshops, in partnership with Zometool and the Association of Science-Technology Centers.
