The Institute for Advanced Study at the 2019 Festival
The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) joins the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) as a key partner of MSRI in organizing the 2019 National Math Festival.
The Institute for Advanced Study, located in Princeton, New Jersey, is one of the world’s leading centers for curiosity-driven basic research. Since 1930, it has served as a model for protecting and promoting independent inquiry, prompting the establishment of similar institutes around the world, and underscoring the importance of academic freedom worldwide.
The IAS participated in the 2015 and 2017 National Math Festivals with engaging talks on “The Math of Art and the Art of Math” (Marcus du Sautoy), “The End of Space and Time: The Mathematics of Black Holes and the Big Bang” (Robbert Dijkgraaf), and “Rubik’s Cube and Other Permutation Puzzles” (Matthew Kahle).
Together with the Charles and Lisa Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences, the IAS is pleased to welcome two presenters at the 2019 Festival:
Dr. du Sautoy will present on “The Creativity Code: The Art of Algorithms and the Algorithms of Art“, and Dr. Wigderson on “Cryptography: Secrets and Lies, Knowledge and Trust.”
